A small Milagro charm from Mexico, made from embossed tin and depicting one of many different symbols — people, hands, hearts, animals, body parts and more.

Each charm has a small loop for hanging and comes with a beautifully illustrated, double-sided card telling the story behind Milagros.

Milagro is the Spanish word for miracle. These small metal votive charms have a long tradition in Mexico and other parts of Latin America, where they are also associated with the tradition of ex-votos. Traditionally, they were left at churches and shrines as tangible symbols of a prayer, a request for help or gratitude for a favour received.

The shapes often reflected the reason behind the offering: a heart might represent love, an animal could stand for livestock, while hands, legs, eyes and other parts of the body could relate to a particular hope or concern.

Today, a Milagro can also simply be kept as a small personal talisman — hung on a wall, tied to a gift or carried as a tiny object with meaning.
